Dear Vice-Chancellor or Principal

Teaching Excellence Framework: Postponement of Year Two results announcement

1. As those of you participating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) will be aware, we had planned to send institutions their awards and statements of findings under embargo on Monday 12 June, and to publish the set of awards and other outcomes information for all participating providers on Wednesday 14 June. (See ‘Teaching Excellence Framework Year Two: Dissemination of outcomes’.)

2. Participating providers have already received notice that, following the outcome of the general election, the Cabinet Office has confirmed that pre-election (or ‘purdah’) restrictions on public announcements will continue until a new Government has been formed. Beyond this point, there will continue to be consideration of the implications of the election outcome across Whitehall and Westminster.

3. We have therefore understandably been told this morning by the Department for Education to postpone the TEF results announcement. I have written assurance that this is a postponement, and that the rescheduled dates will be issued shortly.

4. We are all aware that many colleagues across the sector have been making significant preparations for the announcement next week, and I am very sorry for the obvious difficulties that this postponement will cause. We will of course update you as soon as we have confirmation of the revised publication dates.

Yours sincerely

Professor Madeleine Atkins
