Health and wellbeing is a priority for Thames Water. We report to our Executive team monthly on a number of health performance indicators (HPI’s) including: working days lost due to work-related ill health and number of employees seen as part of our statutory health surveillance programme. We are further developing our HPI’s and reports to include more detail on trends and hotspots within the organisation, so targeted initiatives can be developed. Health and wellbeing is also discussed regularly at Board meetings. Details of our occupational health and wellbeing initiatives are included in our annual Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability report.

Data on sickness absence rates is captured via our HR system, with the rates reported as a percentage of working days lost within the organisation. We currently have initiatives in place to improve the recording and management of sickness absence across the business. Our plans include updating the attendance management policy; increasing the in-house occupational health and wellbeing team and promoting the benefits of early occupational health intervention in all cases of ill-health, where work is considered to be a contributing factor.
