H5. Smoking Cessation/Respiratory Health
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 29 April, 2013
Please describe how you have encourged your staff to stop smoking and reduced other risks in the workplace to respiratory health over the last year. There is a 2000 character limit when completing this section.
Hope North East (HNE) is committed to smoking cessation within the work-place and improved respiratory health of all staff, volunteers and service users. As part of our better health at work campaign during 2012 we have supported the 'Stoptober' campaign organised by a HNE health advocate. This resulted in 5 individuals quitting smoking. It was also a great team building time.
We continue to be linked into the NHS smoke free team and link our service users, volunteers and staff into the local Stop Smoking Service.
Within our service we find that our peer-led approach is popular in terms of smoking cessation because we identify role models who help and support others, sharing their personal stories of how they quit and some of the difficulties they experienced and how they overcame them.
We often share personal testamonial from individuals with those seeking to quit or even better introduce them to a recent quitter.
