H6. Staff Health Checks

Historically, Thames Water provided basic employee health checks that included blood pressure checks and general health advice provided by our in-house occupational health team. Recognising the need to do more to encourage employees to take responsibility for improving their own health and wellbeing, Thames Water have recently introduced two initiatives. These enable employees to undergo more comprehensive health checks supported by external health and wellbeing providers.

We have deployed a health kiosk in our main office sites which offers employees the opportunity to undergo blood pressure, heart rate, BMI and QRisk (risk of heart disease) checks. This will be available for a three month period initially and will then be reviewed. The second initiative is to offer all of our Operational staff a mini-health check/cardiovascular risk assessment with a health adviser. The health check includes blood pressure, heart rate, BMI, body fat percentage, cholesterol and diabetes checks along with general lifestyle advice. These have been supported by our wellbeing week at the beginning of October, promoting the benefits of making small changes to adopt healthier lifestyles and signposting employees to the NHS choices and Change4life websites for more information.

Our Executive and Extended Leadership team also have the opportunity to undergo a free medical assessment via an external provider, providing them a valuable and much appreciated opportunity to monitor their own health and wellbeing.
