P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace
6 November, 2013
Submitted: 27 April, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
We continue to encourage our staff to be more physically active and we have been working hard to secure discounted gym memberships where local facilities are available. We now have corporate gym membership rates for most of our sites. At Head Office the gym runs classes at lunch time and after work. Facilities such as bicycle racks and showers are available to allow employees to cycle to work.
To ensure that our employees remain fit and healthy our Employee Health & Wellbeing (EHW) team run mini MOT days across all sites and three yearly healthy checks, where the importance of physical activity is reiterated, and often local leisure centre staff will come and work with the EHW team promoting physical activities available locally. We also distribute health information from third parties such as the British Heart Foundation and posters encouraging colleagues to take stretching exercises to reduce the risk of injury.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
KP Snacks has included a link to the Chief Medical Officer's physical activity guidelines on our corporate website.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
All employees will have seen information on improving physical fitness, had medical checks available and the majority have access to discounted gym facilities.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
It will have increased as we now have discounted gym memberships at more sites.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
