P1. Physical Activity: Community
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 16 May, 2014
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Sporta members continue to run numerous and various promotional products, best suited to their locality, which employers can use to encourage staff to use trust facilities. The UK Fitness Network, which has only Sporta trusts as members, incentivises people to use trust facilities both near their home and near their places of work, by enabling joint memberships.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
Sporta members who are leisure and cultural trusts are charitable social enterprises and run physical activity programmes which they regularly develop so as to meet their objectives and their business needs. These programmes and campaigns necessarily vary from place to place and with an emphasis on affordability and accessibility.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Throughout the year Sporta's members in England have continued to implement a wide range of local programmes and activities for physical activity in communities and have developed new facilities better adapted to community needs despite major cuts in local authority subsidy.Ssporta has supported this through networks and resources providing information and ideas and has signed an agreement with Sport England for a Lottery funded programme which will begin in 2013.
Please estimate the number of people that (a) participated in your community programmes:
Please estimate the number of people that (b) were more active as a result of participating:
Please explain how you arrived at these estimates (if unknown, please explain why):
Sporta does not keep data on the thousands of projects which members carry out.
Please indicate which of the following demographic groups within the local community that you have worked with to promote increased participation in physical activity:
Women, Men, Older adults (65+), Children & young people, Black or Minority Ethnic (BME) Communities, Disabled People, People from deprived communities, Other (please specify)
We are unable to report this but Sporta trusts are represented in some of the most deprived and diverse communities in the country.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
