H6. Staff Health Checks

How many of your employees have used the staff health check offer? If unknown, please explain why.
All Mount Anvil employees are able to undertake a complimentary health check with the in-house Paramedic.
Approximately 90% of office based staff have undertaken the health checks.
The Paramedic will visit the office location 3-4 times per year and these will be advertised at least 4 weeks prior to the appointment. An appointment system is set up and staff who require a health check are advised of their time at least 2 weeks prior. These health checks have proved extremely popular and fill up within a matter of hours, subsequent days have had to be arranged to ensure all staff that want a health check are able to attend.
Every day the Paramedic will visit a different Mount Anvil construction site and posters, word of mouth and the provision of 'eyes on' site walk around actively encourage the workers to participate. This initiative has proved extremely popular especially with workers who are away from home and feel they do not have time to visit their GP due to being self-employed.
Any medical condition that is picked up, relevant advice is provided and the member of staff is signposted to another healthcare professional if required.
This year, staff have been signposted to a blood pressure treatment trial working with University College Hospital London and one worker was immediately taken to hospital after a previously undiscovered heart condition was found during the health check. After spending 5 days in hospital where they underwent further assessment and treatment that worker returned to work soon after. Without this health check being available, this could have proved catastrophic.
46% of workers who have been tested have had hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol) and after advice and returning at a later date; 100% of those staff reduced their cholesterol levels, reducing their risk of heart disease, stroke and other related conditions
