H5. Smoking Cessation/Respiratory Health

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 20 December, 2011

A one-to-one smoking cessation service is currently available from our Occupational Health Service. Employees are provided with smoking cessation products to aid their attempt to quit and have 6 face-to-face sessions with an Occupational Health Adviser. Employees are also signposted to local NHS services for additional support. Pilot group workshops have also been run at our head office by our local NHS smoking cessation team. Our plan is to replicate this model across all sites in 2012. Employees can also utilise the online smoking cessation programme Click2Quit developed and run by our Consumer Healthcare division. In 2012 we intend to assess how transferable the group workshops run by the NHS is onto other sites (Q1).Where there is demand we will then set these groups up to provide another choice to our employees. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is also in discussions with the Department of Health regarding a partnership to support implementation of the outcomes strategy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma. What this will entail and mean for pledge H5 will become clearer early in 2012.
