Submitted: 27 April, 2015
Please describe how you have supported staff with chronic conditions or those with unpaid caring responsibilities over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section
Mount Anvil believe that good proactive management of substances that can cause chronic health conditions will assist in preventing and reducing many employees from sustaining a chronic condition in the first place.
Health checks are available to all staff groups including sub-contractors employees. The health checks encompass a good range of tests that can highlight and address ill health. Lung checks are actively encouraged and carried out on site. These checks in particular are important to assist in establishing any potential respiratory condition before they are further exacerbated by the work environment. If any abnormalities are discovered during the consultation, these are discussed with the member of staff including advice on how to manage their condition, where they can obtain further information and any further clinical pathways they can explore that can help them manage their condition.
A number of proactive campaigns are published on a regular basis around all Mount Anvil locations. Toolbox talks are given to all construction site staff on subjects such as the danger of dust inhalation and the long term health conditions that can develop from poor management of a variety of common construction dusts and the implications these can have on themselves, their family and their careers.
Employees are encouraged to drop in and discuss any health concerns with the on-site Paramedic who visits all construction site locations on a weekly basis.
The risk of silicosis has been significantly highlighted on site and where required, workers are educated on the risk they could be putting themselves at, if they are not adhering to all the safety precautions such as damping down prior to sweeping up, adequate ventilation / extraction, wearing suitable respiratory equipment.
A report is compiled on a monthly basis and is reviewed by the Senior Management Team.
