Please describe how you have provided information and support on health and wellbeing for young people in your organisation over the last year. This may include information on any induction arrangements for new staff/young people and any benefits that have accrued. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
At Mars we believe that our employees are our greatest assets and that providing the support and schemes that care for them is crucial.
Our in-house wellness programme "Winning with Wellness" provides all of our associates with opportunities to be better informed about their health and help them to make choices about how to lead healthier lifestyles.
There is a strong focus on nutrition, physical activity, stress management and smoking cessation. The programme is constantly evolving and has seen the introduction of focuses Wellness Weeks; more free activity classes; and displaying nutrition information in canteens.
Winning with Wellness is managed by the occupational health team who are also available to provide personalised advice to each employee throughout the year. Health testing takes place each year, and free chiropody sessions and massage sessions have also been offered as part of Mars' holistic approach to wellness. We have also introduced resilience workshops to support good mental and strengthen the resilience of our associates.
Gyms have been installed at many sites and physical activities are offered at all of our sites including football, circuit training, pilates and salsa. Facilities such as showers, changing rooms and bicycle racks have been installed to make exercising easier.
Mars also runs specific events to support national initiatives including National Salt Awareness Week and the British Heart Foundation’s No Smoking Day.
All new starters and the young people within our business (mainly graduates and apprentices) have access to all of our health and wellbeing initiatives. Our occupational health team presents at each associate induction to promote the "Winning with Wellness" programme, and also to promote the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Support and development are at the heart of our culture, and all young people within our business have a strong support structure which includes a line manager, mentor and buddy.
