P3. Active Travel
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 27 March, 2015
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
The cycle to work scheme continues to be a benefit made available to all employees all year long and via salary sacrifice. Within the new Head Office we now provide a secure cycle store and world class lockers, showers and amenities that positively promote active travel. Our new office location means that all employees arriving by train now have to walk between 5-8 minutes longer and our Bristol office is very central within the City again encouraging public transport and walking. We continue to support West Berkshire Council with public transport initiatives and employees have had access to representatives to discuss travel plans without using a car.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Direct Wines continues to support a number of local initiatives with local schools and charities. This year we have again arranged for children from local schools in Theale and Windsor to visit our vineyards and get involved with harvesting the grapes. This activity is physically challenging but enjoyable.
Please estimate the number of your employees who report they are regularly using active modes of travel and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
We have 13 employees on the bike scheme with many more who cycle and we estimate that up to 30% of Head Office and 50% of Bristol office use the train or bus and walk to work.
Has the number of your employees using active modes of travel increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why:
Public transport use has increased.
If your active travel pledge activities have focused on customers or local communities, have you observed or measured any increases in active travel in these groups? If yes, please provide details and where you have been able to measure this please explain how you arrived at this estimate.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
