1 January, 2013
Submitted: 27 March, 2015
Please describe how you have supported staff with chronic conditions or those with unpaid caring responsibilities over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section
We are committed to embedding the principles of the chronic conditions guides in our HR procedures, Occupational Health service and our management training programme. All employees have access to our employee assistance programme, industry charity (The Benevolent) and receive permanent health insurance as a core benefit of employment. Occupational Health will take a more proactive approach within the work place reviewing employee places of work and advising on reasonable and practical adjustments that support employees.
Building upon our progress in 2014, we have improved upon a number of our health screening benefits that are available to all employees through our flexible benefits platform and salary sacrifice. The benefits include more inclusive cancer screening and full health MOT checks for all employees to choose from on an annual basis. In terms of chronic conditions we are proactively managing employees as a team consisting of HR, the Manager and Occupational Health. Over the past year we have taken measures to support employees and make adjustments that have included workstation adjustments (desk height, mouse type and specialist chairs), the introduction of 8 variable desks for employees with back problems and used flexible working patterns to support employees with physiotherapist, doctors and hospital appointments. We have recently moved our Head Office and that has allowed us to focus on the working environment for employees. We have purchased new desks and chairs for all employees including adjustable desks and created a workplace with real break out areas that allow employees to relax.
