H11. Alcohol in the workplace

We believe that the health and wellbeing of our employees is as important as their safety at work. As part of our health and safety improvement strategy we are seeking to ensure that that the health risks from work are effectively managed, that we promote employee health and well-being and that we have good occupational health support services in place.

We have a company wide drug and alcohol policy which is supported by an E-learning training module and include sensible drinking within our health promotion activities.

There is a company occupational health medical service that is available for individuals and their managers. This may result in a referral for specialist support for either physical or mental health conditions.

There is also 24/7 access for all employees and their family to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) helpline and website with guidance on a range of life issues. Part of this service also includes free face to face counselling sessions.

During 2015/16 we will:

• Ensure that information on our occupational health services is included within relevant manager training courses.

• Encourage and monitor completion of the Drug and Alcohol Awareness E-learning training module.

• Use our company publications, health promotion campaigns and employee road shows as an opportunity to raise employee awareness of occupational health and wellbeing, including alcohol awareness and sensible drinking.

• Continue to work alongside Trade Union Health and Safety Representatives to ensure we are effectively supporting employees so that they can continue to work, wherever possible.
