H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

Please decribe how you and your caterers have encouraged healthier restaurants/vending outlet/buffets (as applicable) for your staff over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
The college now operates four outlets for staff students and the general public.
The Food Court and Skills Café provide a wide range of hot and cold meals to suit the customer’s needs. The menus comprise of meals that are nutritionally balanced including meals that are low in fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt but they are still high in taste. Special value meals are on offer for 99p and they are nutritionally balanced to include at least one vegetable portion .
Coffee Rapport offers a healthy salad bar and a range of freshly made sandwiches, fruit juices, herbal teas and barrister coffee.
A key points during the academic year all college outlets provide advice by using NHS resources to promote healthy eating. Promotions have included tray liners encouraging customers to eat “5 A Day” and “Change4Life” resources are also used to provide key messages relating to healthy eating and lifestyle choices. The “eat well” plate information is displayed to encourage customers to choose a balance diet providing information on how much to eat from each food group.
Vegetarian meals are balanced and varied to include essential nutrients. Low calorie and vegetarian dishes are labelled as healthy options.
Healthy breakfasts are promoted as a healthy way to start the day and to help achieve a healthy weight.
The Flagship Restaurant provides an outstanding selection of freshly prepared food that is sourced from local suppliers. Food can be prepared to order taking into consideration the customer’s personal taste, food allergies and calorie reduction. The restaurant has been highly rated on Trip Advisor and it has a 5 star food hygiene award.
