H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

At Mars we take associate health and wellbeing seriously. We believe that good health is good business and our in-house workplace health programme (Winning with Wellness) is a fundamental element of achieving this aim.
The programme aims to provide all of our employees, nearly 4000 people, with opportunities to be better informed about their health and help them to make choices about how to lead healthier lifestyles.
With such a diverse workforce we have been working hard to deliver healthier staff restaurants across all of our sites that meet their varying needs.
All of our sites offer healthy food options, and we have been working with our caterers to deliver a range of healthy meals which are lower in fat, salt and calories. Provisions of reasonably sized portions of food have been made, and fruit, vegetables and salads are available every day. Hot and cold water is also freely available throughout our sites. Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) information is included on soups and on main meals each day, so that associates can make an informed nutritional choice about their meals.
Nutrition is a key part of Wellness Calendar each year, and over the last 12 months we have held campaigns around fats and salt awareness, and have taken part in National Salt Awareness week. We have held promotions around fruit and veg, and milk and dairy, and introduced a grill bar at one of sites.
Healthy eating was also a key focus of our 2013 internal Wellness Week, and we used this as an opportunity to inform and educate staff about healthy eating. The results from our voluntary Wellness Survey show that our employees are absorbing the messages and understand the nutritional behaviours that will benefit them.
