H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

The College operates three, soon to be four, eating outlets for its staff, students and customers. The three outlets offer a variety of choice for example, there are options available for those who prefer healthier meals and for those who are vegetarian. In addition the College conforms to good practice in other ways for example numerous water fountains are located around the College. As a part of the Better Health at Work Initiative and other forms of feedback received from staff and students; one area of improvement focuses on providing better information to staff, students and customers in terms of calories of meal options and information for those people who have food-related allergies. Furthermore, more needs to be done to promote healthier eating options based on the information mentioned above and more specific promotional techniques. As were coming to the end of the 2011/12 academic year, these new measures will be implemented in time for the new term September 2012. The first stage of the implementation plan will ensure Director of Commercial Operations and food outlet staff are aware of the planned changes. In addition, these staff will also be asked for their view/ideas regarding putting the new approach into action. It is expected this will take place before the end of July 2012. From this point, new designs for presenting food-related information will be created and, once agreed and confirmed, these will be generated. The new information will be used from September 2012 and staff, student and customer feedback will be gathered in October to assess the impact of the new approach.
