Since 2010 Lidl has been reviewing its entire own brand product range against the FSA salt targets to work to reduce salt levels where required. Initially 305 own brand products were identified as being over the salt targets. Through work with our suppliers in the UK and also with our counterparts in Lidl in Europe working with their suppliers, we have improved this significantly and mid-way through 2012 had only 89 products remaining over the salt targets. We continue to work on these items and their reformulation to ensure reduced salt levels are relaunched by the end of 2012.In addition to these products we continue to address products where salt reduction is harder to achieve because of it being a product safety issue. Lidl currently has 43 own brand products that do not meet these targets due to the safety requirements of salt within them. We are working with our suppliers to try and reduce the salt limits in these products to as close to the targets as possible without compromising on safety, this process is still ongoing.
