H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

Please decribe how you and your caterers have encouraged healthier restaurants/vending outlet/buffets (as applicable) for your staff over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
MBD provides a free staff canteen on site at our head office and we have retained Albacore as our catering providers. Our onsite Chef works alongside Albacore’s nutritionists, the ‘HEAT Team’, to ensure that we are providing employees with healthy choices. The daily breakfast menu includes healthy porridge and fresh fruit pots, The daily lunch menu always includes vegetables as an accompaniment to main meals and wherever possible ensuring these are fresh, seasonal and locally sourced. A vegetarian option is also provided each day or employees can opt to choose something from the fresh salad bar which includes back potatoes, a range of healthy sandwiches or made to order omelettes.
Whilst we do not provide calorie information on the menus, an “H” is placed against dishes to indicate healthy options. Albacore staff are also trained in providing responsibly sized portions. The Albacore ‘HEAT’ team also run quarterly healthy eating campaigns on site, where a member of the team will come onsite and do awareness sessions and cooking demonstrations. The next session will be around reducing salt and sugar in food without compromising on taste.
We will continue to ensure that drinking water is visible and freely available around the office. Both are canteen and newly created ‘breakout pod’ are now stocked with fresh fruit and herbal teas.
