Delivery plan:

Submitted: 30 May, 2014

Staff healthy lifestyles and healthy eating is supported within the Trust Catering Services. The Trust promotes staff wellbeing and the catering outlets provide healthy food and beverages within the overall offer.

The Trust Catering Services will ensure that healthier options of food groups are available within a range of products to support healthy lifestyle choices e.g. where products such as high sugar drinks are available a comparative range of drinks containing low or zero sugar will be offered. Food products will also be available without sauces or mayonnaise within the Trust Catering Services.

Meal Deals will include food groups that are seen as healthy choices and the use of two for one offers will not be adopted within Trust Catering Services. Healthy products such as jacket potatoes, with a low fat protein filling and fresh fruit will be used in meal deal offers in place of confectionary and crisps.

Portions sizes have been standardised throughout Trust Catering Service provision and represent part of a balanced diet. Recipes have been adapted to ensure reduced fat, salt and trans-fats and are continually adjusted to make better use of new and emerging healthier food choices.

Water fountains are accessible throughout the Trust.

The Trust Catering Services are actively seeking nutritional information from suppliers and also calculating in-house food production nutritional analysis to comply with Government Standards.

The Trust supports Government national standards for patients and staff catering services.

The Trust PFI Compliance monitoring team are working with contractors to develop a cohesive approach towards healthy eating and RVI Food Courts currently supply details of their nutrional analysis and provide a healthy choice as part of the food court deed.

The Trust Catering Services will support staff by offering healthy choice alternatives in both NHS Trust Catering and Contractor service provision.
