H3. Health & Wellbeing Report
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 30 April, 2015
Please describe how you report on the health and wellbeing of your employees, including annual sickness rates
Greencore includes a section on the health and safety of our employees in our Corporate Responsibility annual report:
We have Occupational Health provision at each of our sites, either employed directly or contracted in. Each site completes an Occupational Health risk assessment to ensure appropriate cover is in place. The Occupational Health procedure set out in the company Health and Safety Handbook requires records of health surveillance to be kept. All Occupational Health programmes and associated activities are required to undergo regular monitoring and evaluation.
Our manufacturing sites run initiatives such as quarterly health promotions which include blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks, prostate awareness, smoking cessation support, vision screening, and breast health awareness.
A recent initiative at one of our sites changed the way that absence is managed by refocusing on attendance. The attendance management policy has clear steps, guidelines and trigger points which generate an absence review with the line manager when required. This enables the HR team to explore any external factors that may also be affecting attendance and offer support where possible. Short Term Absence and Long Term absence are managed differently and through two parallel processes. The absence rate at the site over the last year since implementation has reduced from 9% to just under 4%. The site has also been successful in rehabilitating Long Term Sick colleagues back into the workplace reducing the number of colleagues currently on Long Term Sick from over 15 to 6. The site rolling average for absence is down to 4.8% from around 8% a year ago.
