H6. Staff Health Checks

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 14 November, 2012

Employees are currently offered the opportunity to participate in Mini Health MOTs every quarter throughout the year and are encouraged to participate in more in depth healthchecks, which are offered to eligible employees based on the results of their mini MOT. The company will continue to offer this service on an ongoing basis for the foreseeable future in a bid to raise awareness of conditions and improve the health and wellbeing of our employees. The mini health MOTs we offer to employees include measurements for height and weight and checks on BMI, body composite and blood pressure. As well as this, employees are given the opportunity to discuss their results with a member of the healthcare team who are able to offer advice and support as well as signpost employees to other services.Dependent on the findings from the mini MOTs, eligible employees are offered an additional in depth healthcheck. Employees who participate in the healthcheck are asked to complete a lifestyle questionnaire, have checks completed to obtain BMI, waist circumference and cholesterol and also have a cardiovascular risk assessment completed. Employees then receive a print out of their results, an information booklet which explains what the results mean and are also able to discuss the findings of the healthcheck in depth with a member of the healthcare team who will provide advice and guidance on lifestyle and habits or refer/signpost to relevant internal and external services that may be of benefit. The company uses a number of communication tools to advertise both the health checks that are available both internally and as part of NHS screening and to encourage employees to participate. Employees who participate in any of the health checks are asked and encouraged to complete an evaluation form, the results of which are collated and analyzed on a quarterly basis to assess employee participation, the impact that the health checks have and also to obtain suggestions for improving service.
