People are at the heart of Gentoo. Its not just about looking after customers but staff are equally important to the Group too. Gentoo genuinely care for the health and wellbeing of their employees and strives to achieve a culture where staff work in an environment that allows them to be happy at work to achieve their full potential.A twelve month campaign titled Happy, Healthy and Here was launched in January 2012. The aim of this was to raise awareness, educate, inform and signpost staff to a number of services that will improve their health and wellbeing both at work and at home. The campaign focuses on ensuring that staff are not only healthy at work but also happy and the here refers to maximum staff engagement as well as ensuring mental health awareness is also fully promoted. The campaign has been positively branded and has helped to successfully promote a number of the events, campaigns and important messages throughout 2012.NHS Health Trainer Programme: This free service ran by the local NHS was promoted to staff across the business through a variety of internal communications and many were encouraged to take part. Staff were invited for a free health MOT, which included height, weight, BMI and blood pressure checks. Staff were also provided with any general health information following their health MOT e.g. how to reduce their blood pressure.Staff had the option to sign up to a 12 week programme where they would be assigned their own health trainer who would work with them to improve a particular health issue unique to them, such as weight loss, increase physical activity, stop smoking etc. During the last 12 months 180 staff have participated in this programme.
