Submitted: 30 April, 2015
Please describe how you report on the health and wellbeing of your employees, including annual sickness rates
We have continued with our pledge to improve the health and wellbeing of our workforce in a number of ways. these include:
The launch of our 2015 wellbeing calendar. One thousand calendars were distributed across the group to raise the awareness of this key area. Each month depicted a different theme and was supported with a toolbox talk and posters.
Also we have raised the awareness of managing your intake of alcohol with a love your liver campaign in January. Encouraging employees to take part in a dry January.
We also raised the awareness of heart conditions in line with the national heart month of February.
The importance of ensuring our employees drink sufficient amounts of water was encouraged through the raising of awareness of this key health aspect. We tied this campaign into 'world water day' which was on the 22nd March. Hydration awareness is very important.
Another campaign we ran was the awareness of allergies. As we moved into April we discussed the symptoms to be aware of and the simple controls that an be made to reduce the severity of allergies.
Our approach to health and wellbeing is now being recognised in the wider highway maintenance industry. We have been asked to present our approach to this key area of employee wellbeing it an industry wide audience later in 2015 to share our experiences.
In 2015 we will again run our 'steps to health campaign'. This will start at the beginning of May but preparation is well underway with teams being put forward from across the group. Pedometers have been issued and imaginative team names put forward of which helps in providing a real team spirit . The walking campaign will run in line with National Walking month and last for for weeks.
In June we will drill down on sun awareness and encourage staff to wear sunscreen, emphasising greatly on skin cancer.
In August we will encourage our employees to eat healthy with a 7 day diet plan to see if anyone can loose weight or take on healthy eating lifestyle
