S2. Promoting the Responsibility Deal

Committed since:

5 November, 2014

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 16 December, 2014

The BBPA has supported the Responsibility Deal since its launch in 2011. We have encouraged our brewing and pub owning members to sign up to the pledges that are relevant to them, in particular the alcohol pledges. As BBPA we have also signed up to all of the alcohol pledges as well as pledges on health and wellbeing of staff and encouraging physical activity in the workplace.

To support our members in meeting their obligations and and promote the Responsibility Deal more widely we –

• Regularly discuss the Responsibility Deal and industry activity as part of it in meetings
• Publish updates on progress of the Responsibility Deal through communications with internal committees and groups and in member newsletters
• Support members in reporting on progress made under existing pledges and committing to further activity or new pledges
• Showcase company initiatives undertaken through the Responsibility Deal on the Responsibility section of our website
• Reference progress made by the Responsibility Deal in publications, briefings and press releases
• Promote the Responsibility Deal and the effectiveness of the voluntary partnership approach to colleagues and stakeholders in Europe through the Brewers of Europe and internationally through the Worldwide Brewers Alliance
• Sit on the Responsibility Deal Alcohol Network group to support the running of the alcohol pledges and also on the monitoring and evaluation group to ensure a robust process of measuring progress on pledges such as A8. Alcohol unit reduction
• Created a new individual BBPA pledge to encourage the promotion of lower strength alcoholic products through the on-trade to support the billion unit reduction pledge
