H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

Please decribe how you and your caterers have encouraged healthier restaurants/vending outlet/buffets (as applicable) for your staff over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
The Greencore Way, launched in June 2014, includes "Great Food" as one of its four principles. Activities carried out at our sites in support of this principle include encouraging healthy eating amongst our employees and their families.
We run regular "Great Food" events including those themed around healthy eating. When sites are launching "healthy options" for our customers, we celebrate this by promoting the product within our staff restaurants and providing information on nutrition.
In addition to offering healthy options, sites restaurants carry out a number of initiatives to encourage healthy eating at work. For example, the canteen at one of our Food To Go facilities provides a "Live Well" hand out each month. A recent issue was food that helps you to keep hydrated. Another site worked with their catering partners to display calorie values of the set menu so that colleagues are well informed about the food being served. Healthier options introduced by the site include a deli and sandwich bar which has proved a huge success with colleagues. Vending facilities have also been upgraded and new microwave ovens installed for colleague use.
Staff restaurants may publicise via the notice boards the percentage of meals that are healthy. This enables the restaurant to monitor the success of the more healthy foods and find out what people like. We recently saw a healthy option become the month's biggest seller with 44% of meals.
