We have achieved compliance with 81% of the 2012 salt targets, which equates to 93% of our own brand food and drink products. This puts us in a strong position to work towards the 2017 salt targets, which will be incorporated into our policies and specification system by the end of 2014. Communication to our manufacturing sites and suppliers will begin in July 2014, in order to support new product development and reformulation of existing products. In line with our customersâ€™ expectations, our priority is to deliver salt reduction without reducing product quality (including taste), safety or shelf life. With this in mind we continue to seek acceptable technical solutions in those categories where further salt reduction has been most challenging, such as ham and other cured meats.
