The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is committed to helping develop a healthier and fitter workforce and is keen to promote active travel for commuting and as a travel mode during the working day to meetings. We have a strong dedicated cyclist network and have introduced a ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme and have implemented the Cycle to Work Guarantee. We have run roadshows to promote the scheme and support staff with the provision of safe bike parking facilities, changing and locker facilities. We have also joined the Transport for London – Barclays Cycle Superhighways Workplace Scheme. We also encourage walking and regularly promote campaigns such as ‘The Charity for Civil Servants Virtual Walking Challenge’ to improve health, fitness and well-being and will promote future walking challenges to encourage active travel.
