The occupational health management system adopted by Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) is based on strategy that seeks to integrate the three disciplines of occupational health: Occupational hygienists providing support to the Client, Designers and Contractors focusing on ill health prevention through improved work practices and conditions. The occupational hygienists will outline what health surveillance and safety critical medicals are necessary. Alongside this activity is the provision of a medical centre on site run by an occupational health nursing and physician team. This service will provide the necessary health surveillance, statutory medicals (where necessary), and pre-employment fitness for work assessments (including drug and alcohol testing). In addition, they will provide a treatment service to workers based on the site. Patients will be treated on site where possible, or signposted to the most appropriate healthcare provider (e.g. GP, minor injuries units, Accident & Emergency, etc). The services provided are delivered in accordance with the requirements of SEQOHS.The third element of the occupational health management strategy is to offer regular well-being campaigns, focusing on improving general health and happiness. This service is accessible to all contractors and sub-contractors working on the site. the service also encourages attendees to take the message home, and on occasion, health campaign are extended to the local community as part of the outreach programme and community engagement activities undertaken by BPSDC. All activities are monitored and a monthly report / dashboard is submitted to the leadership team. The data included measures number of visits, but also identifies possible trends where risk control measures in the workplace might need to be reviewed and improved. This would be communicated back to Hygienists so they can focus on exposure prevention in the workplace.
