JD Wetherspoon is a pub operator with 840 outlets across the UK, serving food from 7am until 10pm and offering a full and varied menu. We are committed to the salt levels for the end of 2012 agreed by the Responsibility Deal. Over the last three years, we have been working closely with our food suppliers to reduce the salt content in our products. This initially targeted high salt products but now encompasses all listed products. For certain products, this has been achieved in three stages over an 18 month period; for others, it has been achieved in one stage. Each of our suppliers has been briefed on our commitment to the Responsibility Deal and to review both existing and new products in order to achieve the salt targets by the end of 2012.When developing new products, our initial briefings will stipulate that full nutritional data is required, including a pre-requisite that salt levels are under 2012 targets before any product tasting and review can take place. Examples of how salt g per product has been reduced are as follows (figures taken from December 2010 vs. December 2011): Organic tomato basil soup - reduced from 2.6g salt per portion to 1.38g per portion Roast gravy - reduced from 1.4g salt per portion to 0.95g per portion BBQ sauce- reduced from 0.62g salt per portion to 0.5g per portion Chicken korma meal - reduced from 6.8g salt per portion to 3.4g per portion We will continually monitor salt levels and gradually reduce over the long term, not just stopping at the 2012 targets. Salt levels can be found both on our website and in a printed nutritional leaflet that is available in all of our pubs. This information includes g salt per portion and %GDA based on an average woman with a normal level of activity and children's dishes are based on a child of 5-10 years with a normal level of activity. Additionally, we have a range of children's dishes that are nutritionally balanced and low in salt, such as the Annabel Karmel spaghetti bolognaise that has 1.1g salt per portion (28% of GDA).
