Cornwall Council employees
Cycle to work scheme
We offer the cycle to work scheme for Cornwall Council employees. This opens approximately twice a year for a period of 1 month at a time and is generally very popular with employees. For the past 3 windows of opening there have been in excess of 100+ applications per window.
The success of the cycle to work scheme is measured by the number of employees who take up the scheme.
There are 5 electric bikes situated at three sites in Truro and Bodmin. Employees can use the bikes to travel between offices, for site visits, meetings and during lunchtimes. Employees undertake a short induction in order to use the bikes, and their usage can be monitored via the electronic booking system.
The success of the electric bikes is measured through their usage. This is gauged through the booking system.
Promoting Bike Week
Bike Week is promoted to employees in June. We generally do this by sending communications out via email, employee newsletters and staff message boards and encourage employees to undertake the activities listed in our Bike Week toolkit. This can include anything from making a cycling related pledge, to taking a ride at lunchtime.
We promote the national Bike Week website and encourage employees to use it to find out about local events, and to use the tools and resources available.
We also run a local participation event such as this years ‘tell us what cycling means to you’ challenge. The success of Bike Week is measured through the number and content of evaluation forms completed, and participation in any challenges.
Walk to work week is promoted to employees through different means of communication: email, staff messages and an intranet page to name a few. We promote the resources and challenges available through national charity Living Streets.
