Please describe how you have supported staff with chronic conditions or those with unpaid caring responsibilities over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section
We have continued our good practice in this area. New starters to our company who declare a chronic condition before or soon after joining us are offered the opportunity to discuss their health status and any particular work-related needs that they may have in the context of their job.
Employees with chronic conditions are reviewed periodically and, where necessary, the Company seeks to make reasonable adjustments that enable affected employees to remain in employment with us. In such cases, the HR department and line managers work closely with the Occupational Health (OR) team in order to secure the best outcome for our employees.
In 2014, the HR department in collaboration with the OH team developed a half-day workshop covering Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace. This was piloted at one of our sites and following a review of the feedback, some changes have been made and the plan is to roll out the revised workshops to line managers across all our sites during the next 12 months.
Line managers are also reminded about the need to provide support for employees with chronic conditions and they are also briefed about the in-house OH services available and at their disposal. Formal face-to-face training sessions and the provision of on-line support material are the principal methods used to communicate these messages to our Line Managers.
