F4. Calorie Reduction

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 31 May, 2012

As a leading food manufacturer in the UK and Ireland, we recognise the importance of a healthy, balanced diet and support the work that the Department of Health is doing to improve UK dietary health. As such, we at Kerry Foods commit to reducing calories by 5% (average) in key brands across the categories in which we operate by 2014 (end). These categories include sausage, meat pies, cured meat products (excluding ham*), uncured meat products, spreads and cheese. Depending on the category, calorie reduction will require a tailored approach and will be achieved through a range of activities, including total fat reduction and the introduction of healthier cooking methods. Subject to consumer acceptance, this work will result in calorie reduction in at least 70% of our total portfolio (by volume). In addition, Kerry Foods will also ensure that the majority of new product launches within its branded dairy portfolio will be reduced fat, with fewer calories compared to standard equivalent products. Kerry Foods will also continue to encourage consumers to choose healthier options by actively supporting and promoting its healthier option brands, such as LowLow cheese, which has a third less fat of standard equivalent products. * Due to natural low fat content.
