P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Physical activities currently provided for staff include weekly lunchtime walking group, cycle hire of 4 pool bikes for staff to use during their break and or lunchtime. The Green transport plan includes a cycle to work scheme and a scheme to purchase bicycles at discounted rates has been agreed.
The 2014 Health and wellbeing event held in June 2014 include a range of physical challenges as part of an old fashioned sports day and a BBQ organised by the catering department. The event commenced at 14.00-21.00 to enable staff from all shifts to attend.
Posters at all stairways to encourage staff to use the stairs, posters in non clinical areas to encourage staff to increase their activity away from their computer. The health body section of the Health and Wellbeing intranet pages is being populated with details of walking and cycle routes and local 5 and 10k runs to raise money for an extension to the cancer unit. A trainer from the local leisure centre is preparing a group of staff by trainig with them form 08.00 every Thursday morning.
The occupational physiotherapists have provided material of exercises for office based workers and this is accessed via the healthy body section of the intranet.
Discussions are currently taking place for staff to access the physiotherapy gym after 5pm and at weekends, The physiotherapy service is managed by Cambridgeshire Community Services and hosted by the Trust on the hospital site.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
Information to customers for physical activities and the benefits are normally provided by OH directly to their external customers
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
A group of staff are competing in the Mayor's 10k run on the next Bank Holiday Monday to raise funds for an extension to the cancer centre.
A member of the cancer centre staff was sponsored to travel to South America for white water rafting. The purpose of this was again to raise funds for the extension to the cancer centre.
There has been and continues to be a range of physical activity sponsorships to raise funds for the new cancer centre extension.
