Submitted: 14 June, 2013
East Cheshire Trust has developed an action plan to improve the availability of healthier food choices for staff, including encouragement for healthier eating through education, hints, tips and competitions.
East Cheshire Trust has already made steps in this direction through calorific values on menus in Acute setting, ensuring fruit and vegetables is provided in outlets, water is accessible and bottled water is available to purchase. We also work with the Trust dietetic team to provide healthy eating information such as the 'eat well plate'.
Further initiatives will include snack vending machines to contain fresh fruit as well as other community outlets.
A scoping exercise will be undertaken to determine all catering channels available to staff across all 52 community sites. Once completed we will encourage providers to offer healthier food options for our staff to purchase.
New initiatives will be developed including a gardening club with fresh fruit and vegetables for sale/swop with a weekly fresh fruit and vegetable market.
Regular surveys of staff satisfaction will include health needs assessment questions in the future. This will be rolled out to community staff early 2014.
