Please describe the programme you have in place to manage the cause of occupational disease and improve the health and wellbeing of your staff, by updating on progress in the following categories:
Please describe the programme you have in place:
Annual reporting of the health and well-being of employees
Laing O’Rourke has recently changed our occupational health provider and we are now building upon the experiences gained with our previous provider and the knowledge of our new provider in order to build a report format that is both easy to understand and useful. We are now able to carry out trend analysis in order to identify areas for improvement / concern which in term allows us to put the resources / focus where it is most needed.
The provision of clinical occupational health services (OHS) that work in accordance with the relevant standards e.g. SEQOHS
As mentioned above, we have recently changed our occupational health provider and have appointed Optima as our Occupational health service provider. The services presently being provided includes; Health Surveillance (routine &Safety Critical) , Management Referrals, Management Information / advice, D & A Clinical Governance, sickness / absence management, Rehabilitation. Optima are accredited members of ‘Constructing Better Health’, Link-Up and ‘SEQOHS’ schemes
Arrangements to develop a programme to actively promote health and wellbeing and the effective management of health. (Where relevant)
We are particularly proud of our “Building a Healthier Workforce” programme that was developed in conjunction with our occupational health provider. The programme is now IOSH approved and continues to be rolled out across our business. We have also recently introduced a series of Wellbeing “web casts” that can be viewed via , TV, Computer or via down loading onto i-pads etc.
The programme focuses on the major health issues of both work and non work related facing workers in the construction industry. It deals with each in a simple and straightforward way. The aim is to make health & well being fun and interesting, and in doing so gaining the full attention of the workforce, with our main goal being to achieve behavioural change with an industry renounced for poor health and premature mortality.
Encouraging your supply chain and sub-contractors to endorse one of the listed actions on health and wellbeing.
As part of our normal processes, we undertake pre-let & pre-start meetings with our supply chain and subcontractors. We have recently introduced a standard question asking them how they manage occupational health within their businesses. We are also intending to add a prompt in order to make them aware of the “Public Health Responsibility Deal” including where they can find further information and what they can do to become involved.
