H3. Health & Wellbeing Report
14 October, 2013
Submitted: 30 April, 2014
Please provide a link to the latest published information on the health and wellbeing of your employees.
Defra has established a Wellbeing network with representatives from the core department, executive agencies and NDPBs. This has been extremely useful to share best practice, knowledge and wellbeing activities. For example in 2013 we procured a health kiosk checking BP, weight, BMI and hydration at 10 sites across the department. Resilience workshops were also offered to staff across the department. We were very pleased to sign up to the Public Health Responsibility Deal and Time to Change and our Mental Health campaign has had a noticeable impact in increasing the level of awareness of mental health issues; in particular a staff-led Break the Stigma group has been developed to provide support and guidance to colleagues and managers.
We have been monitoring sickness absence figures for each area and especially focussing on mental health which is the highest reason for absence. Our aim is to support people in addressing mental health issues at early stages by raising awareness and also improving knowledge of support resources; in addition to the Break the Stigma group, our Employee Assistance Programme has recently been relaunched successfully.
Defra’s annual report will be published in July and will include a health and wellbeing entry.
