2 December, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 6 January, 2014

BAM Nuttall wishes to promote to employees and supply chain partners the positive benefits of stopping smoking and encourage employees who want to give up smoking to do so.

To encourage smoking cessation we will ensure that publicity materials are available for displaying on the intranet, notice boards and other suitable areas.

For Smokers who wish to stop we will provide encouragement for them to obtain support packs and gain advice from:
Smokefree 0800 022 4332,
or alternatively from their local NHS Board, local GP surgery or local pharmacy.

Our Health Promotion Calendar and programme will include the national campaigns of “no smoking day” (12 March 2014) and “stoptober”.

Our Occupational Health Surveillance Programme includes lung function tests for those who are exposed to dust fumes or vapours. In addition on a 6 monthly basis employees, exposed to dust, fumes or vapors will be interviewed by a responsible person and any problems identified will be referred to our occupational heath provider.

For all those who work in areas which require them to wear respiratory protection equipment, we will ensure that they are provided with, and wear, suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) and are educated in fitting it and replacing it when appropriate.

We will continue to promote techniques that avoid or suppress the generation, of dust, fumes or vapors to ensure that we meet our statutory and moral obligations.
