The BDA has supported staff through the extension and improvement of its employee assistance programme. With additional contributions from the BDA, staff are entitled to additional benefits (costs of referral to consultants, physiotherapy, etc.) to help manage long term and chronic conditions. This encourages staff to use quick access options and ensure they get financial assistance to tackle such conditions as quickly as possible. The BDA is also using outsourced OH advisors who respond within 48 hours on referrals to support and advise the BDA and its staff on managing chronic and long term conditions, where the management of conditions impacts on the working life of the individual. We also support staff, in particular, with diet related conditions through targetted advice if that advice is delayed through the NHS referral scheme due to waiting lists.
