Submitted: 10 April, 2014
Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust will be supportive of those who wish to 'quit' or access stop smoking support through a range of different channels accessible to staff across the organisational locality. As Employers of approximately 3000 staff we are proactive in promoting and championing a smoke free environment to help promote a healthier workforce.
We endeavor to provide all staff with information and access to Stop Smoking support. This will be provided and promoted through all the relevant Trust communication channels including the staff intranet, desktop facilities, weekly newsletters and information and signage in communal staff areas, staff training sessions, pre-employment checks and staff newsletters. The Trust also participates in national and regional no smoking campaigns such as ‘Stoptober’.
To deliver on this pledge, Liverpool Community Health will ensure that:
-A ‘Fast Track telephone Staff Stop Smoking Service will be launched to make the service accessible for staff, regardless of shift patterns and hours of work.
-All staff are aware of our smoke free policy and cigarette FAQ’s and apply the guidance to their practice and place of work.
-All staff who attend corporate induction will receive brief intervention training which raises awareness of the health implications that smoking has on the individual.
-‘No smoking’ signage is displayed across all organisational property including vehicles.
-All staff who present themselves as a smoker within the pre-employment health checks will be signposted to the relevant stop smoking service for further support.
-We will pro-actively promote National ‘stop smoking campaigns’ such as ‘Stoptober’ and ‘No Smoking Day’ within our organisation.
-All staff will be encouraged to attend our new Health Information Centre (HIC), a Public Health Hub that utilizes new interactive technology to encourage positive health and wellbeing including smoking cessation.
