Please describe how you have encourged your staff to stop smoking and reduced other risks in the workplace to respiratory health over the last year. There is a 2000 character limit when completing this section.
The Trust introduced a complete smoking ban on campus in January 2014. This followed a comprehensive communications and implementation plan which started from September 2013. The publicity plan was aimed at both staff and the local community, service users and relatives. One year on, the smoking ban has proved very effective. The Security team have a responsibility to monitor the no smoking ban and to challenge anyone seen smoking on site. The vast majority of those challenged are visitors.
Supporting staff to stop smoking is a key priority for the Trust’s Health and Wellbeing action plan. Staff can self refer to the local NHS provider, Camquit. The Trust also has a stop smoking referral service for patients.
The national annual No Smoking Day is publicised widely, with celebrities marking the event in the Trust in the past years. Staff can volunteer to become trained 'Stop Smoking' champions which includes participation in the Trust's 'Stop Smoking' steering group, promoting smoking cessation throughout the Trust.
