A7(a). Community Actions to Tackle Alcohol Harms
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 30 April, 2015
Please describe how you have supported local community activity to tackle alcohol's social and health harms, over the last year (2000 characters limit):
Nottinghamshire County Council has opened up a countywide Best Bar None scheme and all available Greene King venues are participating. This will be in place for at least the next three years.
A significant number of our Belhaven pubs have achieved Best Bar None accreditations, including 36 gold, 41 silver and 13 bronze.
We have spoken with the new national Best Bar None chairman about developing a process so it is easier for a national pub company to register its pubs across the various schemes. We will continue to liaise with Best Bar None at a national and local level.
Greene King’s fifth annual charity ball raised £11,000 for Focus12, the Suffolk-based drugs and alcohol rehabilitation charity, and we have now raised over £75,000 for the charity since first being held in 2010.
We have undertaken a tender process and have appointed a national nominated door staff company to work with our venues. By having a nominated company we can instruct them to promote the behaviours we want to be seen in our pubs, such as Challenge 21 and Challenge 25, so we have more input on what they do. Company-wide partnership rather than locally sourced contractors.
We have a dedicated CCTV in most of venues to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our customer.
