F10. Out of Home maximum per serving salt targets

At Jamie's Italian, we're aware of the impacts of having too much salt in the diet, as well as its effects on public health that's why we've signed up to the Department of Health's Out of Home Salt Targets pledge.
We recognise that we have a part to play in helping support the public health goal of consuming no more than 6g of salt per day, and we're committed to reducing salt levels in the food we serve.
We have our own internal nutrition standards, for both adults and children's meals, and salt targets are an important element of these. Every time our menu changes, Jamie and our team of development chefs and nutritionists work hard to make sure that there is always a selection of healthy options available. If any of the new dishes have a high salt content, work is carried out to identify ways in which this can be reduced, without impacting on the flavour of the dish. Going forward, we'll use the Out of Home Salt Targets as a tool to highlight any new dishes that have a higher than desirable salt content, and ensure we meet these targets before the dish is served in our restaurants.
If any of the dishes currently on our menu have a salt content higher than the "maximum per serving" target, we'll review the specifications and alter the ingredients and/or amounts used, where appropriate, with the aim of all our dishes meeting the targets within two years of signing up to the pledge.
We already regularly carry out random tests of our meals in every UK Jamie's Italian restaurant to make sure that the nutritional content is in line with our standards. If the salt content of a dish is higher than our standards dictate, it is reported back to the restaurant immediately so that appropriate action can be taken. We discourage the excessive use of salt to season dishes, especially where naturally salty ingredients are already present.
