In August 2012, the College appointed a new catering provider operating in 3 locations on campus. The new provider is already very proactive in promoting healthy meal options, eg providing balanced hot main meals each day (backed up by a nutritional analysis), promoting other healthy eating options, continual special offers on water and reducing the number of unhealthy snacks that are available. Elsewhere on site, there is a café and restaurant run by the Hotel School students, who provide a variety of healthy options. However, there is also a Staff Association Lounge providing drinks and snacks to only staff, who currently do not have a specific healthy eating offer and this is a key area to focus on in the coming 12 months. Below are the measures that will be undertaken in the next 12 months to build upon the already good practice in some areas and look further into the food and drink offer in the remaining outlet. MeasuresPlanTimescaleTo provide healthy eating options in Staff Association facility. To review current food and drink offer in the Lounge.July 2013To promote healthy eating options, through publicity, special offers, etc.September 2013To regularly review healthy eating options provided in outlets run by catering contractor. To hold twice-yearly meetings with account manager to ensure that the offer remains in line with current nutritionally balanced offer.June and December 2013To ascertain that the food and drink offer across campus is meeting the needs of staff. To undertake an on-line survey to obtain staff feedback and adjust offer if appropriate. September 2013To raise awareness of the nutritional value and health benefits of the food offer to staff to help them understand what is on offer and what choices are available to them in order to make informed choices. To promote the benefits of the healthy food options, themed days or weeks, consider sharing the nutritional information on the hot meal offer.December 2013
