Submitted: 5 August, 2014
Aldi is committed to ongoing progress in salt reduction and other Responsibility Deal pledges that enable and encourage consumers to lead healthier lifestyles.
In 2013, Aldi recruited specific health and nutrition resource to help progress our Responsibility Deal commitments. With regard to salt, this has been achieved by the development of a new comprehensive Salt Reduction Procedure which has been incorporated into the tendering stage of our buying process, ensuring that salt content is targeted at an early stage in the development of our own label products.
Products identified as non-compliant against the Responsibility Deal Salt Reduction targets are raised at the highest levels of our business to be reviewed. The product is then monitored through monthly non-compliance reports and efforts are put in place to progress the product to compliant.
In 2013, ALDI was delighted to have made a significant number of salt reductions across the portfolio of products, including: 20 tonnes removed from biscuits, and 10 tonnes removed from standard potato crisps.
ALDI remains committed to helping consumers lead healthier lifestyles and the new 2017 targets will be implemented and focused on for driving salt reductions further.
