John Fergus & Co, being a new company, has the opportunity to set its standards from the very beginning.
During the construction of its distillery safety will be closely managed with regular on site audits. Mess facilities with drying rooms will be provided along with hand washing stations providing skin care materials. Dust masks and hearing protection will be available and their use monitored. All hazardous materials will be managed as per their COSHH risk assessment. Alcohol consumption will not be permitted on site and smoking only allowed in designated areas.
The company will engage a third party occupational health service provider. All new employees will be asked to attend a medical examination appropriate for their role prior to engagement with the company. All employees will be asked to attend regular medical examination post engagement targeted at risks identified during risk assessment, cereal dust for example. Absence will be closely monitored and measured with return to work interviews taking place during the first day back to work.
Work place monitoring will take place on a regular basis, noise and dust for example, and remedial action taken when levels exceed the standards set by the company, appropriate PPE will always be available to all employees.
The company will promote responsible alcohol consumption with its employees. The company will have an alcohol and drugs policy.
