City Academy Norwich is based in a newly-built location with excellent facilities for eating and drinking. Additionally, the introduction of a new catering contractor in August 2012 has built on the offer available to both staff and students at the Academy. There are already examples of good practice in place, such as balanced meals with appropriate portion control, special healthy meal deals, etc. Therefore, the plan for this coming year should be on monitoring this to ensure provision remains the same and on awareness raising to help staff make more informed choices. MeasuresPlanTimescaleTo regularly review healthy eating options provided in outlets run by catering contractor. To hold twice-yearly meetings with account manager to ensure that the offer remains in line with current nutritionally balanced offer.June and December 2013To ascertain that the food and drink offer across the academy is meeting the needs of staff. To undertake an on-line survey to obtain staff feedback and adjust offer if appropriate. September 2013To raise awareness of the nutritional value and health benefits of the food offer to staff to help them understand what is on offer and what choices are available to them in order to make informed choices. To promote the benefits of the healthy food options, themed days or weeks, consider sharing the nutritional information on the hot meal offer.December 2013To extend the healthy eating options to buffet lunches and other refreshments offered to staff and visitors in meetings and at events. In conjunction with the catering contractor, examine the nutritional value of the current buffet menu options and adjust accordingly; whilst remaining mindful of cost implications.September 2013
