H8. Young People in the Workplace

Our ethos is to support a diverse workforce welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds. We recognise young people have particular wants and needs at the start of their careers.

We support this by an individual development plan and very good management. Each young person has an induction, risk assessment, job chat at least once a month to start then at least once a year with a midyear review and annual appraisal. They are supported by a “buddy” based at H/O and an Area Manager. To support their health & wellbeing we offer a free breakfast and lunch and healthy beverages, they have freedom to Healthshields.

Where we see issues we follow up and make recommendations and if necessary call upon medical or occupational health facilities.

We advertise our vacancies in job centres as we are aware many young people will see this as their 1st route into work. We take apprentices for specific roles and pay above the industry standard.

We support Springboard and People First inter-schools programmes with our “Spotlight” campaign.

We support the Learning & development of young people to gain a nationally recognised qualification through the Bartlett Mitchell academy.

As this is an active work environment with few sedentary working jobs we encourage all of our employees to take regular exercise, have rest and eat nutritious foods.
