P3. Active Travel

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Central England Co-operative introduced a cycle to work scheme for colleagues in 2013. In 2014 we launched our Walking Works campaign which forms part of our Corporate Responsibility focus and the Society's commitment to promote the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.
Walking has been described by some as a wonder drug because of its far reaching health benefits which is why the Society has chosen it as our main colleague health and wellbeing theme.
To support the launch of this initiative, we produced a Walking Works Colleague Pack, with lots of tips and ideas to help colleagues set up and register a work walking group or start walking to work to help improve personal health and fitness.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who report they are regularly using active modes of travel and explain how you arrived at this estimate.

If your active travel pledge activities have focused on customers or local communities, have you observed or measured any increases in active travel in these groups? If yes, please provide details and where you have been able to measure this please explain how you arrived at this estimate.

If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
Promoting active travel to our employees, customers and community is work in progress. Engaging with the obesity issue is a key area of focus for our Corporate Responsibility Community pillar while promoting and supporting the Health & Wellbeing of our employees is a key area of focus for our Workplace pillar.
We will aim to raise awareness amongst colleagues of active travel via internal communication channels. The Society will also look to promote active travel and health & wellbeing in its membership magazine.
