F9. Salt Reduction 2017
7 July, 2014
Submitted: 11 May, 2015
ASDA is actively committed to salt reduction and remain focused on delivering reductions across ASDA brand via the integration of the 2017 salt targets into the ASDA Food & Nutrition Policy; to help guide new product development and reformulation activity. In areas where we are struggling to meet the 2017 targets for technical reasons including safety, shelf life and sensory quality e.g. cooked meats, morning goods and processed cheese, we will continue to work with product and technical teams both within ASDA and our supply base to drive down reductions gradually and continue to look for alternative solutions and / or ingredients to help achieve the salt targets.
Since committing to the 2017 salt pledge in July 2014 we have made good progress and currently over 70% of our own label lines meet the 2017 targets. The current category based criteria allows us to report a 37% compliance including some of our largest categories; 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 8.1, 9.1, 10.1 and 12.1.
