P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 29 April, 2014
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
The office is spread over four floors and we continually encourage staff to take the stairs instead of the lift. Pedometers have also been made available to all staff so they can monitor their daily steps and improve on them.
Dominos continues to partner with Pru Health by making the Vitality scheme available to our employees. This scheme ensures that employees benefit from discounted gym memberships and are given the opportunity to gain reward points, entitling them to further discounts from a wealth of high street retailers. The points system works by logging individual lifestyle habits, such as drinking less alcohol, stopping smoking and increasing physical activity. All staff complete a health questionnaire in order to began their journey to a healthier lifestyle. This scheme will continue in 2014.
Recently we have created a walking group to encourage staff to leave their desks at lunchtime and meet new colleagues and get some exercise. We intend to promote this further in 2014 and try to increase participation in this group.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Our franchisees and stores are extremely pro-active in their local communities, participating in and supporting many local activities. in 2013, our internal magazine, Slice, continued to report on all local stories, in order to share best practice and encourage ideas among our franchisees.
Community values are the lifeblood of Domino's, you can read more about our community engagement by visiting our new corporate website - corporate.dominos.co.uk/CSR. Our new CSR strategy is called Domino's Responsible Delivery Plan and focuses on four key areas of the business - Food, Environment, Employees and Delivering to the Community.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
It's very hard for us to estimate this figure as our workforce is so widespread. Our support centre employees and store teams actively participate in charitable sporting activities from 10k runs, to marathons, to tri-athlons. We also organised a team building event at our head office, this involved staff taking part in sporting challenges. This event has been added to our annual calendar with the next one due to take place in June 2014.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
Yes, we believe that in 2013 our employees participated in further workplace activity, due to the creation of the charity team. The charity team is tasked with arranging for staff to take part in charitable sporting events in order to raise funds for the corporate charity. Staff at the support centre and up and down the country at our stores have participated in many different events, from every day activities such as running, cycling and swimming to the more daring skydiving and bungee jump challenges.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
